Meet The Herd

Buddy was purchased from the dealer himself as an auction intercept! Buddy is a half blind Dutch Harness cross gelding, he arrived extremely fearful of everyone. It's clear he has suffered some severe abuse. You couldn't even touch him when he arrived and if you did his entire body shook so hard you could feel the ground move...Buddy spent his late summer/fall months here at the sanctuary in a training program while competing in a hunter pace series one of which he took second place! He will continue his training after his winter break. Buddy earned himself a home here with me forever at the sanctuary as a permanent resident. He is still very fearful of strangers, especially men, but he is such a good nugget that has had a very traumatic past. It wouldn't be fair to uproot his life again when he still struggles so hard to trust. He will live out the rest of his years with me at the sanctuary.

Darwin is a very sweet 6 year old crossbred gelding. Darwin is mostly blind but appears to still have some type of vision left. He arrived at the sanctuary on Feb 22, 2025. He is the easiest horse to be around. He has a very gentle and calm demeanor about him and is just so well behaved. Darwin prefers the company of humans over other horses and is the low an on the totem pole. He is excellent for the vet and the farrier, he will load right on the trailer and stand for hours to be loved and groomed. So far under saddle Darwin has proven to be unflappable while not very well educated he is safe! This is a horse I would consider putting anyone on.
Darwin is currently NOT YET available for adoption as he has some rehabbing and vetting to get through due to a hock and pelvic issue from years of pulling carts and working for the amish. He is currently available for sponsorship until he is ready for adoption.

Remmy is my personal horse. He is a 21 year old OTTB he has been with me for 9 years and battling cancer for almost 5. We've been through a crazy life together and he has beat the odds. He has had multiple surgeries for his CA and was given 6 months to a year....well almost 3 years later he is still here and fighting! He is one of the strongest and most resilient horses I've ever met. So many people could learn so much from him.…Remmy is one of the favorites, every horse that comes to Misfit Farm seems to gravitate and cling to Remmy for comfort. He is a huge asset to the sanctuary and helping the horses find their place in the herd.

Casper came to the farm 3 years ago when I saw him listed needing a home or facing euthanasia due to him starting to loose his vision. As soon as I saw his add, I knew he needed me. His prior owner was excited when I had reached out and offered him a spot in sanctuary with someone who understood what he needed and could help him adjust. I hooked up the trailer and jumped right in the truck and drove almost 4 hours each way to snag him and bring him home. Today, Casper is now fully blind. Casper is an amazing boy who was quite the challenge at some points. He has successfully now competed in horse shows (earning multiple 2nd place ribbons), miles and miles and miles of trail rides, and even competed in hunter paces! He is now one of the safest horses that ANYONE can ride! He's very personable and loves attention from anyone and everyone he can get it from

Finley - formally "702" from NY last chance bailout.
Finn is a fully blind late teens "fresian" perch cross. When he arrived he was in TERRIBLE condition and lame. Since his arrival in July he has blossomed into an amazing gentle soul. Finn spent his summer/fall in a training program here at the sanctuary learning verbal cues and how to handle himself under saddle. He now has plenty of trail miles under his belt and has even competed in hunter paces!!!

This handsome little man is Squirrel, he's an 4 year old half blind (missing an eye) OTTSTB! Squirrel is not a rescue, he is my own personal horse and a huge part of the herd, this young man keeps everyone active and playful with all of his baby antics. He had some wonderful owners/connections during his career that led him to me, he absolutely loves his heard of blind/half blind friends like himself.

coming soon

Ponkey was about 5 years old when he came to the farm, he was rescued by another rescue with a small herd of donkeys sadly he was loosing his vision and was too dangerous to be adopted to the public a friend of mine and the owner of the rescue asked if I'd take him as it was the only place she felt comfortable sending him due to his issues, and I couldn't say no. Ponkey will live out his life in sanctuary with his herd.

Blue is a retired race horse (OTTB) and is considered a "war horse" he ran many many races and found himself a nice retirement here at the farm. Blue has been here with us for 4 years and went out on "lease" type situation and was returned to the farm with a fracture in his hind R splint bone. He is living the semi-retired life with the occasional trail ride and just being a horse. He is seeking placement in ONLY a therapeutic program where his HUGE personality can give him the job he craves of helping save and enrich the lives of humans in need!

Mikey 30+ year old mini gelding with one eye who came to the sanctuary with two other minis when their elderly owner could no longer care for them properly. Since his arrival he has been cared for by our awesome vet team and has really packed on the pounds. He is the sweetest little man around and would live in your skin if he could! He will live out his final days here at the sanctuary!

Paul is a 9 year old draft cross gelding almost fully blind with some sight still in his left eye. Paul came from Second Chance Livestock where he was having a very hard time in the kill pen, he was hard to handle in the pen and they were debating on community funding euthanasia for him if an experienced home wasn't found. We stepped in and offered Paul to come to the sanctuary with the help of the community his bail was raised and we had him picked up and brought to QT after QT we had an awesome foster home step up for Paul and he is currently with his wonderful foster mom 10 mins down the road from the sanctuary. When Paul was evaluated under saddle he didn't show much education he probably was driven way more than he was ever ridden. However, on a nice road hack Paul showed just how awesome he truly is, nothing seemed to phase him and he was a gentleman. He didn't bat an eye at the cars or 4-wheelers and was just a good solid boy.
